The application will be heard on February 10,2014 before a bench headed by Justice A K Patnaik.
The application filed by Aditya Verma, Secretary of Cricket Association of Bihar, asked for the IPL player auctions to be put on hold as the 3-member Mudgal committee was likely to present its findings in the second week of February.
The Mudgal committee report is set to shed light on the role of Meiyappan, son-in-law of BCCI President N Srinivasan, whose company India Cements owns IPL team Chennai Super Kings, in the spot fixing scandal that rocked the 2013 edittion of the IPL.
Verma’s application contests that if the committee report implicates Chennai Super Kings, then the team’s participation in this year’s IPL will be untenable.
“The franchise of Chennai Super Kings may also be liable to be cancelled,” he added.
Verma suggests that under these circumstances, the player auctions for IPL 2014 must be subject to an order of the apex court on the report of Justice Mudgal Committee.
The player auctions for IPL 2014 are scheduled to take place at the ITC Gardenia hotel in Bangalore on February 12th and 13th.
