Reddit user DarkwingRage recently posted a clip of their Animal Crossing: New Horizons replica of the very clutteredThe IT Crowd office, complete with two NPCs acting as Roy Trenneman and Maurice Moss, played in The IT Crowd by Chris O’Dowd and Richard Ayoade respectively. The IT Crowd isn’t the first sitcom to be mimicked in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as another fan has recreated Joey and Chandler’s apartment from Friends, and other popular shows reflected in the game thus far include Moon Knight, Death Note, and Star Trek. Though it may not be the first copy of a TV show set, fans of The IT Crowd will immediately recognize why a lot of the items are included in DarkwingRage’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons basement.

In The IT Crowd, Roy and Moss’ desks are adjacent so that the two can banter as they help people with their IT problems over the phone, and that’s true with DarkwingRage’s creation of the set in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Just like in the sitcom, the walls are covered in various posters and the floor hardly has space to move in because of countless knick-knacks taking over the furniture other than two sofas which would likely be covered in things if the Switch game allowed for it. Missing a red door to Richmond Avenal’s chambers, the vampire-like character is represented by a large portrait of Jack from Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s Halloween event.
DarkwingRage’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons version of The IT Crowd has shelves in multiple spots of the basement and the two characters are surrounded by tech items like TV with VCR, Effects Rack, and Touchscreen Cash Register. There are also multiple Gyroids adding to the clutter in the basement, while there are Animal Crossing: New Horizons Villager Photos for Bella, Drago, Static, and Stitches which are acquired by being best friends with them. Atop both desks are a computer and phone each, effectively representing the job Roy and Moss face each day in The IT Crowd.
Although The IT Crowd is a British sitcom, it reached a broader audience when it was eventually included in the Netflix lineup. Referencing multiple episodes of The IT Crowd, Reddit users responding to DarkwingRage repeated lines of the show like Roy and Moss’ horrible IT advice, hints at a third character not included in the basement, and the catchy jingle for the emergency hotline in The IT Crowd. Many IT workers are familiar with the question “have you tried turning it off and on again?” and it’s such a repeated line in The IT Crowd that one of the top replies to DarkwingRage’s post echoes the sentiment.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
